Laser Printer
Laser printers are a type of computer printer which is known to produce text and graphics at a high quality in a fairly rapid manner. Laser printers, much like photocopiers, use xerographic printing process; they also differ in that the image is produced by direct, laser scanning. When shopping for the best color laser printer, one should approach with caution. Speed on laser printers can vary widely which should be taken into account before purchasing. Irregardless of speed, cost can be another factor which factors in to your purchasing decision. Laser printer parts can often mitigate the benefit of value from a good buy found at your printer retailer. One of the biggest costs associated with laser printer but not realized until purchase has been made is drum replacement; printers with a plastic drum often require much more regular replacement which can cost a great deal. Another cost is toner replacement which, if needed to be done too often, can run you up very quickly.

However, if style and splashy graphics plays second fiddle to value and function, laser printer can be just what you need. Specifically printers which print double sided on paper as cost is decreased in paper.
The first laser printer for use on an individual computer was introduced in 1981 and rang in at a pricey $17,000.00. Though at the time it was the only one, it certainly was not the best. Today many manufacturers produce laser printers; HP, Canon, IMB, and Xerox to name just a few. The best color laser printer today depends heavily on your operating system. Fortunately for the consumer, there is much more choice and the costs are severely depreciated from their 1981 high. (In 1985 HP introduced their first, while not the smallest, laser printer; chocking in at an impressive 71 lbs; also luckily today, printers weigh far less) There is plenty of information available for the interested consumer looking for a printer to suit their needs. Independent and not so independent research is conducted and reviews are written so check with your retailer, favorite PC magazine, or websites for further information. Color laser printers are obviously the most popular variety of laser printer today; though there are still black laser printers available. Shopping for a laser printer, again, depends on your needs, output, budget, and intended use. You should certainly do some comparison shopping; go down to a retailer and make them demonstrate it for you, before you actually purchase a laser printer of your own. |
